Gulf United Mobility is not a government body, embassy, consulate or appointed application centre. The requirements we work to are those published by the authorities below, and they may change at any time.
Who has to give biometrics
Canada collects biometrics from most temporary residence applicants — visitor visas, study permits and work permits — between the ages of 14 and 79 inclusive. Some applicants are exempt, and the exemptions are published on canada.ca rather than being a matter of judgement. Because exemption categories are adjusted from time to time, confirm your own position there before assuming you are covered.
- Visitor visa (temporary resident visa) applicants in the age range
- Study permit and work permit applicants
- Applicants extending certain temporary status, depending on the case
Where a family applies together, each person in the age range gives biometrics individually, including teenagers. Children under 14 and applicants over 79 are generally not required to enrol, subject to the published exemptions.
When the biometrics step happens
Biometrics come after you submit, not before. You complete the application in an IRCC secure account, pay the application fee and the biometric fee together, and submit. IRCC then issues a biometric instruction letter — sometimes called the BIL — which is the document that lets you attend a centre. Turning up without it is the most common wasted trip at this stage.
- Submit the application and pay the biometric fee online
- Receive the biometric instruction letter in your IRCC account
- Book an appointment at a Canada Visa Application Centre, where booking is required
- Attend within the period stated in the letter
- Keep the receipt confirming enrolment
Giving biometrics while living in Bahrain
Canada does not enrol biometrics at a Canadian office in Bahrain. In-person collection is handled by the Canada Visa Application Centre network, operated for IRCC by its appointed commercial partner across the Gulf. The current centre list, appointment arrangements, opening hours and any centre service fee are published on the provider's Canada pages, and that is the source to check before travelling to an appointment.
Take your passport, the biometric instruction letter and your Bahrain residence documents. The enrolment itself is short — a fingerprint scan and a photograph — and no decision is made at the centre. Staff there cannot assess your documents, comment on the strength of the application or tell you when a decision will come.
If no suitable appointment is available
Applicants sometimes enrol at a centre in another country when local availability does not fit the window in the letter. That is permitted, but it adds cost and travel and should be planned rather than improvised. If the window is genuinely going to lapse, the correct step is to follow the guidance in the letter and in your IRCC account rather than simply attending late.
Ten-year validity, and when you can reuse biometrics
Biometrics given for a Canadian temporary residence application are generally valid for ten years from the date they were provided. If you applied for a Canadian visa or permit within that period and gave biometrics then, a new temporary residence application may not require new enrolment. IRCC publishes a check on canada.ca that tells you whether yours are still valid.
Two cautions. First, validity applies to the biometrics, not to the fee structure or to permanent residence applications, which are treated differently. Second, IRCC may still direct you to enrol again in individual cases. The instruction letter, or its absence, is what governs — not an assumption based on a previous application.
Mistakes we see at this stage
- Trying to book an appointment before the instruction letter has been issued
- Letting the period stated in the letter expire while gathering documents
- Attending without the letter, the passport used in the application, or both
- Assuming a previous fingerprint enrolment for another country counts for Canada
- Booking flights around an expected decision date, which nobody can promise
- Ignoring messages in the IRCC account after enrolment, including requests for the passport
None of these affect the merits of a case, which is what makes them frustrating. They are process failures, and process is the part we can reliably help with.
Where our assistance fits
We prepare and review the application before it is submitted, explain what the biometric instruction letter will ask of you, and keep the timeline visible so the window is not missed. We do not attend the appointment, we do not hold any position with IRCC or the appointed centre, and we do not influence the decision or the processing time.
- Route confirmation, including whether a visa or an eTA applies to your passport
- Checklist and document review for a Bahrain-based file
- Support with the IRCC account and the upload structure
- Clear guidance for the biometrics and passport-request stages
- Application submitted and the biometric fee paid
- Biometric instruction letter downloaded from your IRCC account
- Appointment booked inside the period stated in the letter
- Passport used in the application, plus CPR and residence permit
- Enrolment receipt kept after the appointment
- IRCC account checked regularly for further instructions

Start your visa applicationFrequently asked questions
Can I give biometrics before submitting my application?
No. The biometric instruction letter is issued after submission and payment, and centres enrol biometrics against that letter.
How long are Canadian biometrics valid?
Generally ten years for temporary residence applications. IRCC publishes a check that confirms whether yours are still valid, and it may still ask you to enrol again.
Do children need to give biometrics?
Children under 14 are generally not required to, and applicants over 79 are generally exempt. Everyone from 14 to 79 in a family group normally enrols individually.
Does giving biometrics mean my visa is approved?
No. Enrolment is a processing step. The decision is made by IRCC on the whole application, and no part of the process guarantees an outcome.
What happens if I miss the deadline in my letter?
The application can be refused as incomplete. Follow the guidance in the letter and in your IRCC account as soon as you know there is a problem, rather than attending late without checking.
