Gulf United Mobility is not a government body, embassy, consulate or appointed application centre. The requirements we work to are those published by the authorities below, and they may change at any time.
Step 1: visitor visa or eTA?
Canada splits short-stay travellers into two groups. Visa-required nationals apply for a temporary resident visa, commonly called a visitor visa, which is a counterfoil placed in the passport. Visa-exempt nationals flying to Canada normally need only an Electronic Travel Authorisation linked to their passport. The test is the nationality on your passport, not where you live, so two people who both live in Manama can need different permissions.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada publishes a tool on canada.ca that tells you which one applies to your passport and your method of travel. There are also narrower situations — for example, some travellers who have previously held a Canadian visa or hold a valid US non-immigrant visa may be able to use the eTA route when flying. Because these rules are adjusted from time to time, check the current answer for your own passport before starting.
What the visitor visa covers
The temporary resident visa is for temporary stays. IRCC describes the visitor category as covering tourism, visiting family or friends, and business activity such as meetings, conferences and negotiations that does not amount to entering the Canadian labour market. It is not a work permit, not a study permit for longer courses, and not a residence route.
- Tourism and holidays, including multi-city trips
- Visiting relatives or friends settled in Canada
- Business meetings, conferences, trade events and site visits
- Family occasions such as weddings, graduations and births
- Short courses within the limits published for visitors
A visitor visa can be issued as single entry or multiple entry, and the visa's validity is not the same thing as the length of stay. The officer at the port of entry decides how long you may remain, and a stamp or a document issued on arrival sets that period. Plan around the permission you are actually given rather than the sticker in the passport.
Applying while living in Bahrain
Canada does not operate a visa-decision office in Bahrain. Applications from the Gulf are submitted online and processed by an IRCC visa office responsible for the region, while the in-person steps — biometrics and, where required, passport submission — are handled by the appointed Visa Application Centre network serving Bahrain. VFS Global operates the Canada Visa Application Centres across the Gulf, and the centre list and appointment arrangements are published on its Canada pages.
Bahraini nationals
Bahraini passport holders are generally visa-required for Canada and apply for a temporary resident visa, unless a published exemption applies to their circumstances. Confirm the current position on canada.ca rather than relying on any summary, including ours.
Expatriate residents in Bahrain
If you hold another nationality and live in Bahrain on a residence permit, your Bahrain status is central to the file. Your CPR, the validity of your residence permit, how long you have lived in Bahrain and the stability of your employment or business here all help explain why the visit is temporary. A residence permit that expires shortly after your intended return is one of the most common weaknesses in Gulf-based applications, and it is worth resolving before you apply.
Where you are lawfully resident also matters procedurally: you should apply as a resident of Bahrain and give biometrics at the centre serving Bahrain, not in a country you are merely visiting.
The official application route, step by step
- Confirm on canada.ca whether your passport needs a visitor visa or an eTA.
- Create an IRCC secure account and answer the eligibility questions to generate your personalised document list.
- Complete the application forms online, including travel history, employment, family and financial questions.
- Upload the requested supporting documents in the formats IRCC specifies.
- Pay the official processing fee and the biometrics fee online.
- Receive the biometrics instruction letter and book an appointment at the Canada Visa Application Centre serving Bahrain.
- Attend the appointment with your passport and the instruction letter to give fingerprints and a photograph.
- Respond promptly to any request for additional documents, an interview or a medical examination.
- If approved, follow the passport request instruction so the visa can be placed in your passport.
Biometrics are usually valid for a defined period and may not need to be repeated for a later application within that period. IRCC publishes processing times by country and application type, and they move with demand. No agent — ourselves included — can shorten an official processing time or influence an officer's decision.
Documents a Bahrain-based file usually needs
IRCC generates a personalised document checklist inside your account once you answer the eligibility questions, and that list governs your case. The categories below are what a Bahrain-based visitor file typically has to address; treat them as preparation, not as a substitute for your own checklist.
Identity and status
- Current passport with sufficient validity and blank pages
- Bahrain residence permit and CPR for expatriate residents
- Previous passports where they show relevant travel history
- Digital photograph meeting the published specification
Purpose of travel
- A travel plan with dates, cities and intended activities
- Flight and accommodation arrangements, or reservations, consistent with those dates
- An invitation letter from a host or Canadian business where one applies, with the host's status in Canada
- Conference registration or meeting confirmations for business travel
Funds for the visit
- Bank statements covering a recent continuous period, in the applicant's own name
- Salary certificate or employment letter stating role, salary and approved leave
- Commercial registration and business financials for owners and partners
- Sponsor documents and proof of relationship where someone else is funding the trip
Ties to Bahrain or your home country
- Employment continuity, contract or leave approval
- Property, tenancy or business interests
- Family circumstances that explain the return
- Study enrolment for students travelling during a break
Where a document is not in English or French, follow the IRCC instruction on translation and certification. Never submit a document you cannot stand behind: a fabricated booking, statement or letter risks refusal and a finding of misrepresentation with long-term consequences.
Where Bahrain-based applications commonly run into difficulty
Funds that appear suddenly
A balance that arrives days before submission, with no explanation, weakens rather than strengthens a file. If a genuine transfer, gift or asset sale funds the trip, explain and evidence the source rather than leaving the officer to guess.
Residence status that expires too soon
If your Bahrain residence permit expires close to or before your return date, the case for a temporary visit is harder to read. Renewing first, or explaining the position clearly, is better than ignoring it.
Inconsistencies between form and documents
Employment dates, addresses, travel history and family details must agree across the forms and the evidence. Most inconsistencies are clerical rather than dishonest, but an officer only sees the contradiction.
Unaddressed previous refusals
Previous refusals, for Canada or elsewhere, must be declared. A new application that simply repeats the old one, without addressing what the earlier decision raised, usually meets the same outcome. Our refusal review guide sets out how to work through a decision before reapplying.
Families, children and study travel
Each traveller, including each child, needs their own application, and minors have additional requirements around parental consent and travel arrangements. Where a child travels with one parent or with another adult, IRCC publishes what it expects to see.
If the purpose is a longer programme of study rather than a short course, the study permit route applies instead, and our Canada study permit page explains how we support that. Choosing the wrong category costs both the fee and the processing time.

Do Bahrain residents need a visa to visit Canada?
It depends on the nationality in your passport, not your residence. Most travellers applying from Bahrain are visa-required and apply for a temporary resident visa, while visa-exempt nationals flying to Canada normally need only an Electronic Travel Authorisation. Confirm your own requirement on canada.ca before applying.
Where do I give biometrics for a Canada visa in Bahrain?
Biometrics are collected by the appointed Canada Visa Application Centre network, operated by VFS Global in the Gulf. After you pay the biometrics fee, IRCC issues an instruction letter and you book an appointment at the centre serving Bahrain. Check the current centre and appointment arrangements on the official VFS Global Canada pages.
How long does a Canadian visitor visa take from Bahrain?
IRCC publishes current processing times by country and application type on canada.ca, and they change with demand and season. Any specific figure quoted in an article is out of date quickly, so take the time from the official tool — and note that no agent can shorten it.
How much money do I need to show?
IRCC does not publish a single fixed amount for visitors. What matters is that the funds credibly cover the trip you have described, that they are in an account you can evidence, and that any sponsorship is explained. Consistency between the itinerary, the stated costs and the statements matters more than a large balance.
Do I need to book flights before applying?
Confirmed tickets are generally not required before a decision, and buying them early carries risk. A clear itinerary with reservations usually serves the purpose. Our guide on flight bookings for visa applications explains the difference between tickets, reservations and itineraries.
Can Gulf United Mobility guarantee approval?
No. Every decision rests solely with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada and, on arrival, with the border officer. We prepare, review and coordinate the application so that it is complete, consistent and submitted correctly against the current official requirements.
